Description
Biostatistician
PYC Therapeutics
Nedlands WA (on-site)
Full time Job title: Biostatistician
Job Description
Life-changing science is our focus; we start there, and everything else follows.
As we enter 2026, we are at a transformative inflection point. With a proprietary drug delivery platform and a maturing pipeline of first-in-class RNA therapies, we aretransitioning from a clinical explorer to a globally recognized biotech leader. Our pipeline includes two clinical programs for Inherited Retinal Diseases, one focusing on Polycystic Kidney Disease and a fourth pre-clinical program on Phelan-McDermid Syndrome.
We are seeking a Biostatistician to join our growing Bioinformatics & Data Analytics team. Working alongside our Technical Lead Biostatistics, you will help ensure that every analysis — from early exploratory work to investor-facing data disclosures — meets the highest standards of statistical integrity. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on rigorous methodology and wants to see their work directly shape the development of life-changing medicines.
Only candidates with ongoing unrestricted rights to work in Australia will be considered.
Please note: The position may close earlier than stated once a successful candidate is identified.
Selection Criteria
Required
• Postgraduate degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics or a related quantitative discipline.
• 5+ years of applied biostatistics experience, ideally within the life-science, biotech or pharmaceutical sector.
• Solid grounding in Frequentist and Bayesian statistics, longitudinal data modeling, and mixed-effects models.
• Experience analyzing clinical or translational datasets, including safety, efficacy, PK/PD or biomarker endpoints.
• Proficient in statistical programming languages, preferably R; comfortable working with large, complex datasets.
• Ability to design, execute, and interpret analyses with a high degree of independence.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present statistical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
Desirable
• Experience in rare disease, ophthalmology, RNA therapeutics, or genetic medicine settings.
• Familiarity with regulatory statistical expectations (e.g. ICH guidelines, FDA/EMA submissions).
• Experience with adaptive trial designs, dose-finding models or interim analysis frameworks.
• Exposure to simulation-based approaches, predictive modelling, or decision analytic methods.
• Proficiency in additional tools such as Python or Stan.
• Proficiency in reproducible analysis using tools such as Git
• Experience contributing to statistical analysis plans (SAPs) or clinical study protocols.
• Exposure to real-world evidence (RWE) or natural history study data.
• Publication record in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating applied biostatistical expertise.
Key responsibilities
Data Analysis & Interpretation
• Analyze clinical and translational datasets across PYC's programs, including biomarker, PK/PD, safety and efficacy data.
• Design and implement appropriate statistical approaches to support meaningful interpretation of study outcomes across development phases (e.g. Phase 1/2 clinical trials).
• Perform exploratory and confirmatory analyses — including Bayesian models, simulations and predictive modelling — to support data-driven decision-making.
• Prepare clear, accurate statistical summaries, visualizations and interpretations tailored to executive, clinical, and investor audiences.
• Collaborate closely with pre-clinical, clinical, bioinformatics and data analytics teams to ensure analyses are aligned with program objectives.
Statistical Design & Consultation
• Assist in the design of analysis plans and data presentation strategies for ongoing and upcoming clinical and nonclinical studies.
• Provide statistical input into study planning, endpoint selection, data summarization and interpretation frameworks.
• Advise internal teams on experimental design, sample size considerations, and appropriate statistical methodologies.
• Contribute to internal review of data packages and external-facing materials to ensure interpretations are statistically robust and defensible.
Technical & Organizational Excellence
• Ensure all analyses and outputs adhere to best practices for version control, documentation and reproducibility.
• Support statistical literacy across the organization, contributing to the mentoring of colleagues on core statistical concepts.
• Communicate complex statistical concepts to diverse stakeholders, adjusting to their level of expertise.
