Here at The Kids our vision is simple; Happy, Healthy kids!
The Biostatistics team at The Kids supports a wide variety of health and wellbeing research projects being led by passionate researchers. It is a key research-enabling platform that makes statistical expertise readily available to researchers, with the aim of providing them with a comprehensive experience from study design through to data analysis.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Biostatistician to work with our researchers providing study design advice and analytical support, ensuring their data is structured and analysed appropriately to provide data driven insights, helping us on our mission to improve the health, development and lives of children.
We are interested in talking to both experienced biostatisticians, who may have many years of experience within health research, and new graduates who bring analytical skills from related fields and may be starting out in their professional careers - keen, able, and willing to learn on the job. We have a variety of work available to adapt the projects (complexity, responsibility, volume) to the right candidate.
Reporting to the Manager, Biostatistics, this encompassing role will see you (in a consultative framework) liaise with a wide range of people across the Institute and beyond, including students, professors, clinicians and health professionals to provide them with the statistical expertise and guidance, and the analytical capacity to deliver high-quality research outputs.
Key responsibilities:
- Liaise with researchers to develop statistical analysis plans, including estimation of resourcing requirements
- Carry out analysis on research data using a reproducible research framework (typically selecting the appropriate statistical methodology to apply).
- Prepare clear summaries of analysis results, including the preparation of results materials for publication in collaboration with the engaging researchers.
- Contribute to the preparation of research proposals and grant and ethics applications.
- Assist in the reporting of results (writing peer-reviewed manuscripts).
Based in our modern offices within Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, this role will be offered on a full-time, ongoing basis.
About You
The successful applicant will have a degree majoring in statistics, maths, or other relevant discipline along with experience in the application of statistical methods to the analysis of health data. You will work well in a small team and be able to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation.
Along with this you must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Proficiency with statistical software packages for the manipulation and analysis of data (strong preference for R skills).
- Experience with clinical trials data, modelling hierarchical and/or longitudinal data, analysis of linked health data, modern classification and regression techniques or any form of data mining.
- Knowledge of principles or experience in implementation of reproducible research.
- Ability to liaise with health researchers from a range of backgrounds and levels of experience.
- Good time and project management skills, including maintenance of open communication regarding project progress; an ability to take responsibility for own work.
