Our teamThe Minerals, Energy and Groundwater Division delivers precompetitive geoscience data, analysis and tools to government, industry and communities, informing exploration and sustainable resource development decisions. This includes the management of large collections of nationally significant geoscience data and physical samples within Geoscience Australia’s Repository. Working in the Repository team is an opportunity to help achieve government goals of supporting a thriving and resilient economy through the use and reuse of public data.
The Repository is focussed on maximising outcomes for our stakeholders through effective and efficient data management and delivery solutions. We are a team of data and collections managers and are passionate about the services we provide. We are embarking on a journey to improve our current data storage and delivery systems and are looking for someone to join and support us on that path through implementation to ongoing operations.
The key duties of the position include:We are seeking a Data Solutions Officer to support the implementation and ongoing operation of the new Repository Data Management and Delivery (RDMD) solution. This position will support continuous business improvement by leveraging the new RDMD solution to optimise data management and accessibility.
In this role, working under limited supervision, you will work collaboratively across the Repository and more broadly across GA to facilitate the successful implementation of the RDMD solution. Additionally, you will support ongoing operations by understanding and addressing Repository requirements, ensuring the needs of both internal and external stakeholders are being met.
We are looking for a proactive individual who likes to problem solve using their experience working with data management systems. You will have excellent communication skills that will build and sustain positive and productive relationships across GA to help deliver the RDMD solution, and you will help promote a coordinated and reusable approach to data storage and access across the enterprise. You will also provide ongoing specialist technical support within the Repository team and drive continuous improvement.
In this role you will:Work across teams to support the successful delivery of the RDMD solution in line with project goals and timelines, advocating for business needs and contributing towards reusable enterprise architecture and systems.Build and sustain positive relationships with key stakeholders at the operational and strategic level.Champion RDMD solution user acceptance testing and liaise with vendor(s) early to resolve issues.Engage in risk appropriately, monitoring and managing operational risk and escalating issues as required.Keep up to date with emerging technologies. Offer innovative solutions to solve complex problems and drive continuous improvement in Repository data management and delivery processes.Provide expert and specialist technical advise and assistance to the Repository team on the operation of the RDMD solution, escalate issues as required and liaise with technical support (internal and external) to find solutions.Support the organisation achieve tangible benefits (cost, quality, timeliness, compliance, user outcomes).Undertake other duties in support of the Repository Directorate, branch and division as required.

Initiate change and see improvements through to completion taking personal responsibility for meeting objectives and progressing work.Keep up to date with emerging technologies and identify broader factors, trends and influences that may impact the Repository’s work objectivesDevelop and champion user acceptance testing for the RDMD solution project. Review project deliverables in line with the project schedule and escalate issues via the agreed governance framework.Offer senior level expertise and support to users of the new solution, working proactively to resolve issues.Assist the Repository Director with change management, strategic planning and risk.Act professionally at all times and adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualificationsTechnical experience working with data management and delivery systems, data collections, library or other collections management. Experience in geoscientific data management would be advantageous.Be proactive and outcomes focussed, and have highly developed problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills. See tasks through to completion.Deal positively with change and uncertainty. Help others navigate change and adapt smoothly to new systems.Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly to a range of audiences.Experience with coding and machine learning workflows is desirable.
