We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Lecturer (level B) or Senior Lecturer (level C) in the discipline of biostatistics to make a significant contribution to our teaching and research programs. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Lecturer with a strong interest in biostatistics to continue their professional development with a school renowned for its high-quality research and teaching.  In particular, the position will collaborate and support research conducted by the School of Public Health at Westmead hospital and will work closely with the Centre of Kidney Research.

In this role you will:

  • teach introductory and more advanced biostatistics to postgraduate students enrolled in degrees in biostatistics, public health and clinical epidemiology, using both face to face and on-line delivery
  • take on responsibility for unit of study coordination
  • conduct research in biostatistics, public health or clinical epidemiology, including presentations and peer-reviewed publications
  • supervise Master of Biostatistics and other postgraduate coursework students’ research projects.

  • a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline -preferrable background in scientific medical research, engineering, or computer science
  • demonstrates high-quality original research outputs as senior author or as the key member of a collaborative team. Outputs might include high quality publications in peer reviewed journals, patents and successful outcomes in clinical or applied research.
  • experience in data management and analysis (preferably using the software R)
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision
  • proficient computing skills (database operations, maintenance of website content, data management, spreadsheets and word processing)
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters
  • understanding of medical terminology
