One full time ongoing vacancy is available
Drive justice reform through data, research, and evidence-based insights in this impactful and influential role.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Statistician to undertake complex statistical analyses of justice system data and provide expert, evidence-based advice to Government and senior executives. This position plays a critical role in shaping public policy and informing programs aligned with the Northern Territory’s justice reform agenda. Working at the intersection of statistics, research, and evaluation, you will contribute to both analytical and policy-focused outcomes that directly influence decision-making and operational effectiveness.
In this role, you will lead and deliver statistical research projects that assess the impact of programs and policies on individuals’ interactions with the justice system. You will apply advanced quantitative methods, including multivariate analysis, to interpret trends such as reoffending and broader justice-related issues. Alongside your analytical responsibilities, you will provide technical leadership and supervision to research staff, ensuring the development and application of robust and appropriate statistical methodologies. You will also be responsible for preparing high-quality, timely reports that clearly communicate complex findings and support the development of an evidence base for justice policy and operational initiatives.
The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as statistics, mathematics, science, social science, or public policy, and will bring highly developed quantitative research and analytical skills. You will have demonstrated experience designing, managing, and delivering complex research projects, as well as strong capability in data extraction, transformation, and manipulation to address specific research questions. Your experience using multivariate statistical techniques to test assumptions and build evidence will be complemented by your ability to think critically and communicate complex information effectively to a range of audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
You will also bring proven leadership capability, with experience supporting or managing professional research staff, and the ability to foster a collaborative and respectful team environment. Strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness are essential, including the capacity to engage effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field and knowledge of current issues within the Northern Territory criminal justice environment will be well regarded, although not essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful and high-impact work that supports justice reform and improves outcomes across the community. You will be part of a purpose-driven team committed to evidence-based decision-making, innovation, and continuous improvement, with opportunities for ongoing professional development and growth.
If you are passionate about using data to inform policy and drive real-world impact, we encourage you to apply.
